Hello everyone!
Here’s a book review after a long. long time! I hope you enjoy reading it! Let me know in the comments section, if you have read this book and suggest some good autobiographies and biographies to read and review!
QUITE CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF, our life never progresses linearly in pursuit of goals and achievements. Rather, it keeps spiralling between aspirations, decisions and success. Aspirations pave way for new innovations, decisions for changes and success for new milestones. Although this circle is holistically encompassed in all spheres of life, technology is one field, where it has a greater importance. Technology, it seems, has become a widely accepted way of life. Embracing this change, many visionaries, over the decades have toiled to further foster its growth in their countries. One such visionary, Ajai Chowdhry, better known as the ‘Father of Indian Hardware’, has worked relentlessly to helm India across various technological revolutions. His consistent ideas, combined team efforts, experiences, setbacks and strategies have contributed immensely in changing the global standing of the country in terms of technological self-sufficiency.
In his novel, ‘Just Aspire’, Ajai Chowdhry, provides an insight into his life as a whole. The exhilarating childhood experiences in the lanes of Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh), to the carefree engineering days of college and his zeal and grit that ultimately led to the birth and bloom of HCL, all find their mention in the text. He delves deep into the understanding of the human nature and the imperativeness of strengthening interpersonal relationships to secure the plinth of enterprise and entrepreneurship. Maintaining an unshakable belief in oneself and one’s team in such a journey, is another aspect he underlines with veracity.
His simple, crisp writing, brushed with dashes of humour, allows the readers to connect and relate with his experiences easily. A tale, true to its core, impenitently shares with its readers, the ups and downs of establishing a successful empire and lessons learned along the way. The book has various parts, each focusing on a different facet of the author’s life, providing a peek into the problems and solutions, one might incur, if he/she decides to walk on the same path. Instead of providing a didactic perspective to the readers, the author employs various illustrated examples and real life situations while talking about leadership, management and learning from failures. The novel is an archetypal example of encouraging readers to broaden their horizons and form their own views according to their understanding.
The narrative provides detailed guidance on the arts of salesmanship and entrepreneurship; a must read for all the budding entrepreneurs. The novel broadly focusses on three steps of any venture namely, ‘aspiration and genesis of ideas’, ‘achievement of goals’ and finally ‘inspiration for the next sphere of aspirations’. Another major takeaway from the author’s life, is his undeterred passion for the sustenance of cultural arts, including music and literature, something he later used as a means of uniting people by invoking national and cultural pride. Mr. Chowdhry, at the same time focusses on the importance of familial support and the delicate balance between professional and personal life. He also throws light on the importance of self-realization of taking a step back and changing one’s role from being an employee, to a leader and finally a mentor to ensure a successful continuity of one’s brainchild.
The text also talks about philanthropy not just in terms of donations and charity, but the importance of its practical aspect, that helps bring a change in the lives of people. A highlight of the reading was, the author’s accentuation on the pursuit personal satisfaction along with materialistic progress in today’s era. Seldom, one comes across people, whose vision sparks confidence in oneself and offers guidance to traverse unchartered boundaries with zest, at the same time. Ajai Chowdhry is one such visionary. His articulate understanding, astute analysis and eloquent views on any and every subject ranging from engineering, technology, space science, governance, mentorship so on and so forth, provide a deep brook of wisdom to relish and learn from.
One can say, after such definitive study and discussions, the path to finding shared glory and individual contentment is by following the three Ps, as quoted by Mr. Chowdhry in his book, HCL’s people centric motto; ‘Pride… Passion… Performance.’
